VINE is best used as a notification layer. It can help identify that a custody event occurred, especially when a person has left the live jail search. It is not the full court disposition record, not a certified release document, and not a federal custody locator. A released result should be checked against the Sheriff's record, the San Francisco Superior Court case, or CDCR if the person is a state-prison case.

VINELink fields are custody-status fields. They are meant to support notice and status checks, not to replace the court file. - Choose the notification or "Get Notified" option attached to that record.
- Select the available method, such as phone, email, text, TTY, or app notification.
- Enter the phone number or email and select language options if the screen asks.
- Create or confirm a PIN when phone notification requires one.
- Submit the registration and keep the confirmation details.

San Francisco VINELink Limits
VINELink has clear limits. It does not track federal Bureau of Prisons custody, and it is not the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. It can lag behind a live agency change. It may not return a person if the name is misspelled, the custody type is wrong, the record is protected, or the person is not in a participating record set.
Limit: A VINELink alert is a custody notification. Use the Sheriff, court, CDCR, BOP, or ICE source for formal confirmation.

VINE and Registry Boundaries
California's Megan's Law registry is a separate public offender registry. It is not a San Francisco County release list and does not apply to every released person. This distinction matters when a VINELink result cannot be found. A missing VINE result is not proof of no release, no custody, or no court record.
