No Current Annex Releases
The most important release fact for County Jail #2 Annex is negative: it is not an active release facility. The Sheriff's current page says the annex, formerly County Jail #4, is on the 7th floor of the Hall of Justice and no longer houses incarcerated persons. It remains useful in the facility map because old jail histories, older court paperwork, older news references, and public searches may still mention County Jail #4.
If a record says County Jail #4 or County Jail #2 Annex, first identify the date. For a current person, look to the active local channels: the Intake and Release Center, County Jail #2, County Jail #3, court custody, or hospital custody. For an older record, the release proof may be in archived Sheriff records or the San Francisco Superior Court file.
Route an Annex Reference
Because the annex no longer houses people, do not search for an active release roster from this location. Use the annex name as a clue in a records request or court-record search, then verify the actual custody event through the agency that held the record.
- Check whether the date is before or after the September 5, 2020 closure noted by the Sheriff's Office.
- For current custody, use the Sheriff's Find a person in jail search by name, SF number, or booking number.
- For custody-change notices, search California VINE at VINELink.
- For a court disposition, sentence, OR release, bail order, dismissal, or warrant history, use San Francisco Superior Court criminal records.
- For the historical jail record, submit a Sheriff's public-record request and include the County Jail #4 or County Jail #2 Annex reference.

The annex address is useful for identifying the record, but it should not be used as a pickup location for a current release. Current release questions should go through the active jail, intake, public information line, VINE, or court channel depending on the custody path.

About the Annex
The Sheriff's page identifies the annex as a nonhousing location connected to County Jail #2 operations. Research notes that it contains kitchen, laundry, and administrative functions during remodeling. This is why it belongs in a released-inmates site even though no current release should be framed as leaving from the annex: users with old paperwork may have a real location name but the wrong current release path.
San Francisco's facility map is unusually easy to misread. County Jail #3 is in San Bruno but remains San Francisco jurisdiction; County Jail #2 is active at 425 7th Street; the Intake and Release Center handles booking and release flow; and the annex is a historical/nonhousing marker. Treat the facility name as one data point, then confirm through the Sheriff or court source that controls the record.
Older County Jail #4 Records
When old material names County Jail #4, ask for records by both names: County Jail #4 and County Jail #2 Annex. Include full name, date of birth if known, SF number, booking number, case number, approximate booking and release dates, and the specific record wanted. If the court case number is missing, the court research says a requester may need a local RAP sheet from the SFPD Identification Bureau before requesting criminal court records.
The San Francisco Superior Court Criminal Clerk's Office at Room 101, Hall of Justice handles criminal records, and the research lists Criminal Records Department phone number 415-551-0651. A court certificate can establish conviction and sentencing disposition, while Sheriff records establish the custody event. For older County Jail #4 references, both may be needed to avoid confusing a housing location with the legal reason custody ended.
If the Person Is Not Found
A missing live jail result is not proof that someone was released from the annex. It may mean the person is at an active San Francisco jail, was released from intake, transferred to CDCR, moved into federal custody, was in court or hospital custody, or is tied to a sealed or limited public record. If CDCR appears in the record, search CIRIS. If BOP or ICE appears, use the federal locator for that system instead of the Sheriff search.
